I started reading Writer's Digest when I was in 7th grade. Yup. 7th grade. I declared to my teacher that I wanted to be a writer. She, in turn, requested the magazine for the school library. Eventually, I talked my parents into subscribing to the magazine for me.
Today, my children are all adults, I have moved half way across the country, and I still subscribe to the magazine (among others that also support my passion.
This past weekend I was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of attending the Writer's Digest Annual Conference in New York City.
For those of you who have never been to a conference, I highly recommend you attend one. There are always inspiring and entertaining keynote speeches, workshops about the craft and about publishing, networking opportunities, and BOOK PEOPLE! I love spending a few days with people who love books. Those that don't only read them, but love talking about them and writing them.
I always walk away from conferences ready to write, excited about possibilities, and fully empowered. I have made new friends. I attended a pitch slam (my agent has retired and I am seeking new representation). I wrote and wrote and wrote. And I did it all in the city I love, NYC.
Thank you, Writer's Digest, for the opportunity. I'll be back.
