The best way to find your voice as a writer...is simply to write. Write a lot. That sounds simplistic, but the more you put words down, the more you will find yourself coming through. Write about things about which you are passionate. Write your feelings and opinions.
Try writing a letter on the topic. Picture that single person to whom you are speaking. Explain the information in your non-fiction, or tell them the story.
I loved telling my stories to my children or to my friends. It helped to solidify both the plot, the characters, and my voice.
I write as though I am having a chat with a friend, telling a story to my children, or speaking to a specific audience.
Play around with voice. It's OK to imitate an author you love when you are first learning, but don't try to become them. Imitation is a great exercise for practice. But don't try to write their voice. Be you.
And the more often you write, the more often the words will truly be yours.
